Estes Park Wool Market

This past weekend was my first trip to the Estes Park Wool Market. I think I have overly high expectations since the only other festival I've ever been to is Maryland Sheep and Wool, but Estes was still fabulous. I really love being able to buy local products from local people. Here's a photo tour of my trip:

Ahh, shaved camelids look so funny! My boyfriend calls them "the giraffes of the fiber world".

This guy supposedly had 5 horns, but we only counted 4.

A beautiful day in the mountains (I think we made it out just before the rain.)

My first fleeces! The bottom one is a Shetland, the top is Jacob. I'm trying to decided whether I should process them myself or send them away to be done professionally. Maybe half myself, half at the mill?

Who else went to Estes? What did you buy? What do you think of my fleece?

Yes, the pink ribbon is for fourth place. But who knows, maybe there were only four fleeces in the competition :)

Although I did try to apply all the fleece choosing skills I learned in Maggie Casey's spinning class: even crimp, solid "boing", etc, so hopefully I got a good one!

I've never been to Estes Park (fiber fest, have been to the town). I went to Black sheep this year. The animals are so cute. It is one of my favorite parts of a wool show.

I would wash the Jacob or have a mill wash it only. Then you can play with the colors. The colors of a Jacob fleece are so wonderful.

Love Shetland! Is it a dual coat? I fell in love with a Shetland lamb or two or ten. So cute!

I agree with Maia.
Wash the Jacob yourself.

If the Shetland is a double coat then what and process that yourself too...better yarn in my opinion.

I think I'm definitely going to wash/process everything myself (especially now that I'm borrowing a pat green drumcarder!)

I like to separate my fleece into small batches and wash it in those mesh laundry bags. Does anybody know where to buy those in bulk for cheap? I've gotten a couple packs at the grocery store, but it's like $5 for two bags. I'd like to own a lot of them so I can bag up and wash a couple fleeces at once (because if I don't do it all at once it'll never get done!)
